The access to our data base.Q: How to mock using a variable name in a mock in Moq I have a repository class with the following method public int Update(string id, int version) { _db.Set(id, version); return _db.Get("version"); } In my test class, I am trying to mock this method and mocking out the db.Set line. I have no problems mocking out the _db line, but I want to only mock out the specific Set method that the object is calling (where the id is equal to the "id" variable in the test method). I know I can do something like this in Moq: var mocks = new MockRepository(MockBehavior.Strict); var db = mocks.Create(); mocks.Inject(db, "Set"); var actual = db.Set(id, version); But how can I mock out the method based on the variable that I have set? A: If you want to use Moq, you can easily achieve that by using the Call method instead of the direct method invocation. And Moq is not only for Mock objects. The point is that you can mock anything that can be mocked. So just call the method like this: mocks.Call(db, id, version).Return(value); Or if you want to do it the Moq way: mocks.Object.Call(db, id, version).Return(value); The correct syntax should be: mocks.Call(db.Set, id, version).Return(value); The only thing you miss is the.Return(value); More info:
